Hope Without Hurt

H

Oh Lord how can it be

to keep this heart from hardening,

when this pain persists in me?

To think upon the honest, the just and the pure,

Seeing the perfect imperfections

made manifest in her?

Well spoken of and lovely, possessing much virtue;

Oh God she was amazing,

all praises be to you!

And my hope is in your promises to work this out for good,

and your tarrying in silence,

to be soon understood.

And that if a work is still in progress that in time will be revealed,

this pain will pass and in that day

this hurt will then be healed.

Let me not lose hope that two can be one,

what you've brought together,

let it not be undone.

Let the hurt in this hope in the storm of this sorrow,

draw me nearer to thee now,

for there's no promise of tomorrow.

Lest the waves of doubt overtake me and I sink into the depths,

Take my hand and lead me

before I take another step.

Let me hope without the hurt, Oh Lord if this can be,

but never let me hurt,

without your hope inside of me.
