When Two Become One
There is a death you’ve heard of
But haven't given too much thought
As those who’ve lived its consequence
And the battle being fought.

From the beginning it wasn’t so,
That two should be undone.
What God has brought together
Let man not make it one.

A marriage just like living
Has seasons good and bad,
Filled with joys and sorrows,
Memories happy and sad.

As ailments come we suffer,
And healing leaves its scars
But Truth remains in Him
Who can free us from these bars.

And when someone one passes on,
We grieve for those who’ve lost,
But rejoice for those gone on
Under the power of the cross.

But when a marriage dies it’s different
There’s no joy or comfort found.
There are no words to ease the pain
Of a covenant unbound.

There’s no promise that the other
Is in a better place,
And everywhere they are,
They still always see their face.

A reminder of what should be,
But isn’t due to sin.
Where hardness of the heart,
Let love be killed within.

There’s no celebration of life
Or a funeral where we gather.
No one wants the memory
So elsewhere be they’d rather.

No final words by preachers
Or those that knew them best.
No marker in the graveyard
No place of final rest.

None would send them flowers,
Nor would they send a card,
And few would even speak a word
When faced with death this hard.

There are no meals to be prepared
And dropped off every day.
Instead we’ll let them be,
But now and then we’ll pray.

And prayer is good and powerful
When made to God above.
Who gave his life and comes again
To show us what is Love.

So hear me now Lord as I pray
I’m seeking restoration.
But more important let me seek
Your will for transformation.

For though this pain be hard to bear
and for her I still care.
I’m drawing near
and trust you Lord
to take away my fear:
That we could never be again
Or that we never heal
Not mine Lord but yours be done,
Let me rest within your will.
